Irish Academy logo The Irish Academy of Arms (Academie d'Armes d'Irlande) was founded in 1952 by Prof Patrick J Duffy. 
The Academy is the professional body in Ireland for the registration, regulation and training of Fencing
Masters.  The Irish Academy of Arms is affiliated to the International Academy of Arms.

The Irish Academy of Arms has as its goals:
  • to encourage Diploma Fencing Masters to join the Irish Academy of Arms
  • to represent its members with public or private authorities or any other organisation
  • to contribute to the development of principles, rules, techniques and methods of teaching of fencing in all its forms
  • to promote the technical and educational training of its members by all means, particularly by:
1.  the organisation of courses suitable for Fencing Masters in all aspects of their profession
2.  the development of programmes for examinations, together with the composition of a panel of judges responsible for examining the candidates
3.  the issuing of the titles of Entraîneur (Coach), Prévôt,  Maître d'Escrime (single weapon) and Maître d'Armes of the Irish Academy of Arms following successful completion of the relevant syllabus and examination.
